Smithfield, N.C. — June 3, 2020 — A police sergeant killed last night in a shootout near a Super 8 motel in Moody, Alabama will be recognized with a special apparel fundraiser for his family.

Shield Republic Charities announced that their latest Hold the Line campaign will recognize the sacrifice of Police Sergeant Stephen Williams, a Moody Police Department officer who was killed in a shootout at the Super 8 Motel at 2451 Moody Parkway the evening of Tuesday, June 2.

Sergeant Williams was responding to a call for help at the motel when he was met with bullets after a shooting broke out. A male and female suspect were later taken into custody after a several-hour standoff with police. Williams was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

Shield Republic Charities’ “Hold the Line” fundraiser will honor Sergeant Williams with commemorative t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, ladies’ tank tops and decals made in the USA, with 100 percent of net proceeds to be donated to his family.

Sergeant Williams, age 50, had served with the Moody Police Department for three years at the end of a 23-year career in law enforcement. He was recently promoted to sergeant and was recognized as one of the MPD’s Officers of the Year.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

“We were saddened to hear of the untimely and tragic loss of brave first responder Sergeant Stephen Williams, who lost his life in the line of duty yesterday,” said Charlie Romero, spokesperson for Shield Republic. “At Shield Republic, we are honored to pay tribute to this fallen hero and hope that our Hold the Line campaign in his memory brings comfort to his bereaved family and the Moody community.”
