Biden’s Potential Running Mate and the Worst Choice

Joe Biden has been nominated for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. The next important question is who his running mate will be.

Fox News released a strong list of potential candidates for the job. Among them were a few people that had actually run against Joe Biden: Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris. A few that just might offer his campaign some more legitimacy: Rep. Val Demings the Democrat out of Florida, Sen. Catherine Cortez Mastro the Democrat out of Nevada, and Stacey Abrams.

There are a few others on the Fox News list, but I really want to focus on Stacey Abrams.

Ms. Abrams has been doing something that hasn’t really been done before. Abrams has been campaigning for the Vice President position.

This is something that’s never really been done before, but Abrams seems to have been gunning for this position for a while. On top of that, she seems to tick the boxes the Democratic party wants to use to their advantage: being a black woman.

Of course, identity politics are kind of cheap, but they are so annoying because they work for a lot of people. It’s interesting that all the top choices for potential running mates for Biden are women. Since he is amid a sexual misconduct controversy at the moment, he needs a woman running mate to help give his campaign a little more legitimacy.

I know it’s easy to jump on the idea the Biden is guilty of the crime, but I will operate on the same idea that I had with Kavanaugh; Joe Biden is innocent until proven guilty.

Now, a lot of people will tell you to choose a side and say “the woman is always right.” Unfortunately, that’s not how our legal system works, and you have to side with the defendant until there is reasonable doubt that he is guilty.

Back to Abrams; Stacey Abrams is one of the few people to ever made an avid campaign for the position of Vice President, but she is.

The biggest flaw with her right now is that she has already stated that she wants to govern under the pretenses of identity politics. There is a video that was dug up by reporter Patrick Howley that he posted on Twitter about how Abrams plans to redistrict after the 2020 census and have a totally new district in 2021 that will promote having a black ruling class.

It’s not okay to set up elections to rig it to where specific people of specific skin color will win.

Abrams says, “If we have not changed the electorate, especially in the south, we will have a majority-minority population that is governed by a minority conservative coalition.”

This is straight-up identity politics at its most prominent.

I agree that districts shouldn’t be designed to be primarily white. But I disagree with Abrams in thinking that means the person elected has to have the same skin color as the majority of people there. In fact, I think most people will agree that skin color shouldn’t matter at all!

Nonetheless, that is what Abrams is proposing here. The video is from 2014, but that doesn’t change the seriousness of the claim she makes.

If Stacey Abrams is chosen as the running mate to Joe Biden, I just hope she has reevaluated her stance there and decided that a person’s stances and political beliefs matter more for them to represent others in government, more so than the color of their skin.

I’m not saying redistricting is bad. In most cases it’s good. But it should be for the good of everyone, not just a specific group of people.
